Michael Kraykowsky (spelled Krachkovsky also) was one of three friends who were Marines on Iwo Jima . Mike had played sports and graduated from Hackensack High School in 1939 with Carl Padovano and
Neil Fulton
.

He also knew Joe Peccoralo, another Hackensack High School student from a different grade level.

Mike Kraykowsky and Joe Peccoralo were on the same attack transport ship going to Iwo Jima but were assigned different landing crafts during the invasion. One can read in the February 19, 1965 article how Mike carried a bullet in him from Iwo Jima till the day he died.

One can also read in the February 19, 1965 article, and in the Carl Padovano family interview, how
Mike Kraykowsky met Carl Padovano during the battle of Iwo Jima.

After the war, Mike Kraykowsky worked for the Hackensack Post Office.

Michael Kraykowski received the Purple Heart medal for his service.
